Youth Group

What can YOU do on an empty stomach?
This year the Youth Group at Good Shepherd Barrhaven got together to help make a difference in the lives of others. For 30 hours, beginning on Friday at 1:00 pm, we went
without food so that we could see what it is like for over 850 million people who go to bed hungry every night. On Friday evening 16 April, we watched the 30 Hour Famine
National Broadcast online. We were able to see posts from other groups also doing the famine. We completed some of the official challenges. Our group was stellar. There was
music, movies, games. We made a poster outlining some of the stats about poverty, malnutrition and child labour. I think it shocked the kids to hear about 5 yr olds having to
work and take care of babies.
One challenge asked us to collect 2 Quarters, 3 Dimes, 3 Nickels, and 5 Pennies.
This is the change most of us have in our pocket, it equals a Dollar.
• 200 million children under the age of five live on less than $1 per day.
- Child Health Now launch report, Oct 2009
We finished up our event with a BBQ Hosted by the Miller-Selzer family. All of the participants and their families were invited to come. We all had a wonderful time and left
with very full bellies.
We are still waiting to tally the full amount of money raised, we know we are over $500.00 but if for some reason you have not yet been able to make a donation don’t fret -
you can still do so by seeing any one of the youth, or by contacting Janet Connor. You can also make donations online by credit card at:
On behalf of all of the youth Group Members and Leaders I would like to take this opportunity to thank each member of Good Shepherd Barrhaven for all of their support
towards our work for World Vision. Without you this would not be possible. And, … to the Families of the youth thank you for your continued support, whether it be
encouragement, providing supplies for bake sales, a place to create gifts in a jar, or buying the food your child made and brought to church, THANK YOU!

Additional Youth News
We raised just over $170 from our Palm Sunday bake sale for the World Vision 30 Hour Famine.
We are planning to send 2 youth and one leader from our Parish to CLAY Conference for Lutheran & Anglican Youth. We will be joined by the youth leader and one youth
from St. Bartholomew's church. The cost will be $300 per person was well as accommodations. We will be looking into fundraising for this event.
